Samsung Service or a Local Repair Company?
The purchase date on your receipt decides most of this. Samsung's warranty pages list what it pays for, and its refrigerator page excludes repairs or modifications done by non-Samsung technicians, so a covered part is worth claiming before anyone else opens the unit.
Go through Samsung first
- Anything under 1 year old with a manufacturer defect: parts and labor on every major Samsung appliance category.
- A refrigerator sealed-system failure (leak, restriction, evaporator) in years 1 to 5.
- A digital inverter compressor that fails in years 1 to 5, when Samsung covers both the part and the labor.
- A washer bought on or after April 1, 2026 whose Digital Inverter Motor fails (Samsung's 10-year motor term).
Book a local repair visit
- Anything past its first year that is not a listed long-term part: door locks, drain pumps, fans, ice makers, control boards, igniters.
- A compressor in years 6 to 10, where Samsung covers the part but not the labor, and you want a second labor quote.
- Damage Samsung excludes, such as power surges, which both the refrigerator and laundry warranties name.
- An appliance bought used or without paperwork, if Samsung can't confirm the warranty date.
What the Samsung Warranty Covers, Part by Part
These are Samsung's standing US terms as published on its warranty pages on September 29, 2026. Short-term promotional extensions come and go, so check your own paperwork or your Samsung account for anything longer.
- Every major appliance
- 1 year, parts and labor, for manufacturer defects under normal household use. That includes refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and hoods.
- Refrigerator sealed system
- 5 years, parts and labor.
- Digital inverter compressor
- 10 years on the part and 5 years on labor, per Samsung's refrigerator warranty page. A year-seven failure can mean a free compressor with a paid labor bill.
- Washer motor
- 10 years on the Digital Inverter Motor, but only for washers purchased on or after April 1, 2026, per Samsung's washer and dryer warranty page, and a dated receipt is required.
- Not covered
- Consumables such as water filters, shelves, bulbs and handles; improper installation; power surges and outages; unauthorized repairs or non-Samsung parts; commercial or rental use.
How Booking Samsung In-Home Service Works
Samsung takes appliance repairs online through its service request page, and it says a Samsung technician will call within 2 business days to confirm the appointment time. Have the model and serial number in hand before you start the request.
The warranty date Samsung has on file doesn't always match your receipt, for example on a fridge that came with a new house. Samsung lets you upload proof of purchase to correct it, which is worth doing before a sealed-system or compressor claim.
Out of warranty, Samsung's booking flow still works, but it tells you out-of-pocket costs apply and shows its own posted pricing. That gives you a number to compare. Samsung Displays You Can Usually Clear Yourself
Some Samsung messages report a mode or an installation slip. These five come from Samsung's own code guides, and a repeat after the fix is the sign to book. Sensor, fan and compressor codes sit in the appliance error code library.

Samsung Refrigerators: Twin Cooling and Stored Codes
Samsung sells many US refrigerators with Twin Cooling Plus. Samsung's regional support pages describe Twin Cooling as two separate evaporators, one for each side, so check your model's spec sheet. On a two-evaporator design a warm fresh-food side can't be blamed on freezer airflow alone, which is worth mentioning when you describe the symptom.
The second Samsung habit to know: the display keeps a fault code, and Samsung asks owners not to unplug the refrigerator or clear the code unless its guide says to. The stored code tells the technician which fan, sensor or heater tripped. So photograph it, move the food to a cooler if the box is warming, and leave it alone.
Fan codes such as 22E (fridge fan) and 21E (freezer fan) often trace back to ice on the fan blade. Samsung links frost to warm air getting in and notes hot food should cool first, particularly in humid climates. In a Houston kitchen that means checking the door seal with a flashlight and keeping about two inches clear in front of the vents. If a fan code returns after that, it's a job for refrigerator repair.
Samsung Ice Makers: Slush, Frost and Solid Ice
On some Samsung models the ice maker sits up in the fresh-food compartment rather than the freezer, and Samsung's support pages work through ice trouble in a set order.
- Cubes come out slushy or frosty
- Samsung names frost in the ice bucket as the most likely cause. Warm, humid air reaching the bucket through a misaligned bucket or a dispenser flap that no longer seals is the usual route in. Pull the bucket straight out (some lift slightly first), empty it, check its fit and the flap seal, then reseat it.
- No ice at all, no code
- Check whether the Ice Off icon is lit; a lit icon means production is switched off. A filter well past its 300-gallon rating, about 6 months of use by Samsung's estimate, can also starve the fill. Turn ice back on and give it a full day before judging output.
- Ice maker covered in a solid sheet of ice
- Samsung's ice makers run their own automatic defrost. When that fails, ice builds over the mechanism. Samsung says not to defrost it yourself because that can damage the ice maker, and to request service instead. This one belongs with Samsung if the fridge is under a year old. Before Booking a Shaking Samsung Washer
UE, Ub and Ur mean the load is out of balance. Before a front-loader that walks across the floor gets a technician, Samsung's own shaking guide suggests these free checks:
- On a front-loader, open the door and push the drum. If it barely moves, the shipping bolts may still be in the back panel.
- Rock each corner. Samsung wants a firm connection on all four; shorten the other legs before raising the wobbly one.
- Size the load: Samsung calls 3 to 5 pounds (about a third full) small and 6 to 16 pounds (about three quarters) large.
- Untangle sheets and pull a lone bath mat or blanket out, then restart.
- On models that have it, run calibration (Cb) once the washer is level and empty.
- If it still shakes, the suspension or bearings are next. Book washer repair and mention the steps you already did.
What Houston Samsung Owners Ask
Will a local repair company void my Samsung warranty?
It can affect a claim on that repair. Samsung's refrigerator warranty excludes unauthorized repairs or modifications by non-Samsung technicians, and its laundry page excludes unauthorized repairs or non-Samsung parts. Is it worth fixing an 8-year-old Samsung washer?
It depends on the part. A drain pump or door lock is usually a modest job, while a tub and bearing replacement can approach the price of a new machine.
