How it works

How Houston Appliance Care Works

Houston Appliance Care is a free referral line, not a repair company. Your call goes to an independent appliance repair company that covers your ZIP; that company diagnoses the problem, sets the price and does the work, and you pay it directly. Here's who does what, and what to ask first.

From Your Call to the Technician at the Door

Picture a Samsung washer stuck on 5C with a drum full of water. Have the appliance, the brand, what it's doing and your ZIP code ready when you call. A model number or the exact error code helps the repair company, but you don't need either to call.

The call is then connected or passed to an independent repair company that serves your ZIP. From that point you're dealing with the company: its arrival window, its service call fee, and whether it has a slot today. Same-day visits depend entirely on its schedule.

The person who shows up works for that company. Houston Appliance Care doesn't employ technicians, dispatch them or supervise the job. The tech diagnoses the fault and quotes a price. Don't approve any work until you have that price, in writing if you can. Calls are handled in English only at this time.

What Houston Appliance Care Does, and What It Leaves to the Repair Company

Houston Appliance Care

The independent repair company

  • Schedules the visit and sends its own technician
  • Diagnoses the appliance and quotes the repair
  • Performs the work and collects payment
  • Sets its own parts and labor warranty terms; Houston Appliance Care doesn't guarantee the work

Questions for the Repair Company Before It Sends Anyone

  • What's the service call fee, and is it credited if I approve the repair?
  • Will I have a written price before any work begins?
  • How long is your warranty on parts, and how long on labor?
  • Do you carry liability insurance?
  • For refrigerant or sealed-system work on a fridge or freezer: does the technician hold EPA certification?
  • For a gas range, oven or dryer: will a licensed plumber handle any gas line work, and who pulls a City of Houston permit if one is needed?
  • Do you service this brand, and are you able to do in-warranty work for it?

Still Under Warranty? Call the Manufacturer First

Houston Appliance Care isn't affiliated with Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, Frigidaire or any other appliance brand, and it can't book factory warranty service. If your appliance is inside its warranty term, covered repairs normally have to go through the maker's own service network, or you may pay for work the warranty would have covered.

Each brand runs its own booking page: Samsung service, Whirlpool service, GE Appliances service and support and Frigidaire repairs. Several makers cover compressors and drive motors well past the first year, so check even if the appliance isn't new. The brand pages for Samsung and LG summarize those terms.

Texas Law on Refrigeration and Gas Appliance Work

Household refrigerators sit outside the state's A/C and refrigeration contractor license. Texas Occupations Code §1302.058 says that chapter does not apply to work on "a residential refrigerator, freezer, or ice machine." Refrigerant handling is a separate federal matter; HomeGuide notes sealed-system work must be done by an EPA-certified technician.

Gas is a different story. Under §1301.002, plumbing includes appliances and piping that supply gas, along with their installation, repair and service. A narrow exemption covers appliance dealers and their employees who connect appliances to existing openings with a code-approved connector.

Inside Houston city limits, a plumbing permit is required at the point of connection to a fuel gas appliance, and only a master plumber registered with the city can pull it, according to the Houston Permitting Center. This is general information, not legal advice.

Questions About How It Works

Is Houston Appliance Care a repair company?

No. It's a free referral line. It doesn't repair appliances, employ technicians, set prices or guarantee work. Each call goes to an independent local repair company, and that company is responsible for the diagnosis, the quote, the repair and any warranty it offers.

Who do I contact if the repair fails?

The repair company that did the job, since any warranty on the work comes from that company. Ask what that warranty covers before you approve anything, keep the invoice, and note the company's name and phone number from the visit.

Can I get help in Spanish?

Not at the moment. Calls are handled in English only. If you'd rather have a Spanish speaker, ask a family member or friend to join the call, and ask the repair company whether it has a Spanish-speaking technician who can explain the diagnosis.

Why is the call free?

Because repair companies or partners pay Houston Appliance Care for the calls it passes along. You pay nothing to this line. You pay only the repair company, and only for the service call and any repair you agree to after seeing its price.

Ready when you are

Have the appliance, brand, symptom and ZIP code handy. The call is free, and you decide whether to go ahead once the repair company gives you a price.
